SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION
1. PURPOSE OF PRACTICUM
2. PROCEDURES OF PRACTICUM
I spent 1 week at Elementary Lab School for teaching observations. I was assigned to Grade 3-Zircon. The homeroom teacher of Grade 3-Zircon is Ma'am Rhyjema. I learned about how teacher making a the students is enjoy, active and interested when learning.
Mostly, the students is enjoy and happy if the teacher teach in class. They are very active for discussing, asking and answering questions. The teachers are very open with the students. So, students are comfortable when they are in class and not hesitate to participate in learning. Teachers also appreciate each student's answer.
I did my demonstrations in October about Math and English subject. One week before demonstration, I have to consult with mentor teachers, Miss Grace and Miss Audrey, for get the topic from them.
3. OUTCOMES OF PRACTICUM
When I joined the Sea Teacher Program, I learned a lot about the education system and culture in the Philippines. I was amazed by the students who respected to teachers and the teachers were very open to the students.
Students are very comfortable in school. They have a place to channel their talents. I saw that many of them love dance, art, and sports. Every event they perform dances with their classmates. They also share their drawings with me. Every morning, the field is always filled with students playing and doing sports, such as badminton, basketball, and others.
4. THE CHALLENGES OF PRACTICUM
The most challenging part of my teaching experience was having to speak English, even tough my English is not good enough. I bought materials to make traditional learning media, so I needed to manage my finances during 1-month stay in the Philippines. In addition, I also needed to learn how to make lesson plans according to the MELCs curriculum which is different from the curriculum in Indonesia.
5. OVERALL IMPRESSION
The experience of parcitipating in the Sea Teacher Program was very memorable. I practiced teaching English in the Philippines and it was my most rewarding experience. Because it was my first time teaching and I actively communicated English with people. I also have Philippines friends who were friendly and kind. They always guided me if I had difficulties making lesson plans, looking for learning media materials or if I had difficulty talking to each other. All of students at Elementary Lab School is very sweet. They make my days pleasant and my heart warm💝.
6. SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENT
In the future, I hope that Sea Teacher Program can be held for more than one month to maximize the experience.
